چکیده

Embedded system is a computing device with a combination of both hardware and software designed mostly for a single task and it is applied in various devices used in biomedical applications that directly involves in diagnosis, prognosis, patient management and telemedicine. Here, this mini-review addresses the embedded system technologies and their biomedical applications and discusses future challenges in designing and enhancing the functions. Keywords—Embedded system; biomedical application; microcontrollers; microprocessors; challenges ahead

Towards Predictable Real-time Java Object Request Brokers

Distributed real-time and embedded (DRE) applications often possess stringent quality of service (QoS) requirements. Designing middleware for DRE applications poses several challenges to object request broker (ORB) developers. This paper provides the following contributions to the study of middleware for DRE applications. First, we outline the challenges present in one of the principal ORB comp...

Evaluating Real-Time Java Features and Performance for Real-Time Embedded Systems

This paper provides two contributions to the study of programming languages and middleware for real-time and embedded applications. First, we present the empirical results from applying the RTJPerf benchmarking suite to evaluate the efficiency and predictability of several implementations of the Real-time Specification for Java (RTSJ). Second, we describe the techniques used to develop jRate, w...

Sustained Release of Risedronate from PLGA Microparticles Embedded in Alginate Hydrogel for Treatment of Bony Lesions

Background: Inflammatory bone resorption in periodontitis can lead to tooth loss. Systemic administration of bisphosphonates such as risedronate for preventing bone resorption can cause adverse effects. Alginate hydrogel (ALG) and poly (lactic acid-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) microparticles have been studied as drug delivery systems for sustained release of drugs. Therefore, the release pattern of...

Generic Architecture Designed for Biomedical Embedded Systems

Embedded Systems assume an increasing importance in biomedical applications such as for clinical analysis and for patient monitoring. The lack of generic architectures make the design of this type of autonomous embedded systems a cumbersome and expensive task. This paper proposes a generic architecture for developing biomedical embedded systems, considering both the hardware and software layers...
